Benito Mussoline in WWII
Benito Mussolini became Axis leader of Italy in 1922. Italy liked him because he was successful in improving the Italian economy and bringing stability. He was mostly liked because he made the trains run on time by shooting someone if they didn’t. He was determined to do all of this for Italy because he wanted to regain their prestige and power.
Mussolini didn’t enter wwII until June 1940, which was considered his biggest mistake ever since Italy was still at peace. First Mussolini declared war on France because he thought they were the next target for Nazi aggression if he didn’t help Hitler win. The war didn’t end, and as it continued everybody was seeing the weakness of the Italian Army. When Advancing the Front, Mussolini first tried to defeat the British to keep them out of ”His” sea. He was then focussing on his power on beating the Soviets, before he tried advancing across the Atlantic to fight the USA. With lack of confidence and bravery the Italian Army ended up getting beaten by Britain, France, USA and by the Greeks when Italy attemped to invade Greece in 1941.
By July 1943, Italy had lost all of its’ colonies in Africa and most of its army. Mussolini was arrested, while Italy attempted to change sides. Hitler sent some of his people to help rescue Mussolini. He was arrested again when the Germans surrendered. He then was arrested again and he and his wife were hung and were spit on by every Italian.
